Scavenging is the collection and removal of vented anesthetic gases from the Operating Room and receiver fulfills the vital function of protecting the patient from excessive positive or negative pressures. Positive-pressure relief is mandatory to vent excess gas in case of occlusion distal to a closed interface. It is the most important component in an active system for protection from excessive positive system pressure and reduction of waste anesthetic gases (WAGs) in an operating room environment to avoid occupational exposure.
The Scavenging Interface / receiver is placed between breathing and disposal system i.e. Transfer hose which transports WAGs from the exhaust valve of an anaesthetic ventilator or anaesthetic breathing system and Evacuation hose (Disposal hose) connected to the AGSS Outlet for eventual disposal into the open at a safe distance.
